Free storage of your Will and Powers of Attorney

Storing and monitoring Wills and Powers of Attorney
Once you have signed and witnessed your new Legal Consolidated documents, you must ensure the original paper copies are stored safely. Legal Consolidated does not provide in-house storage for new documents. (Photocopies, certified copies and scanned copies of Wills and POAs have no value.)
They can be stored in your home safe, at the bank, or in another safe place. Let your executors know where your Wills and POAs are. Alternatively, you may wish to consider using a specialist law firm such as Fort Knox Legal. They are an independent law firm specialising in Will storage and provide a monitoring service to check death notices. If you choose to use their services, you deal with them directly. Their service is free.

Legal Consolidated has no control over Fort Knox Legal, their storage fees, or their internal release protocols. They follow their own strict legal requirements for the identification of executors and the release of original papers.
To arrange the lodgement of your new documents, please contact Fort Knox Legal directly.
Some government departments offer free storage; sadly, they are often attached to the Public Trustee or State Trustee. It is generally not a good idea to allow the government to have control of your affairs.
Previous Wills held by Brett Davies Lawyers and Legal Consolidated
If you previously had an original Will or Power of Attorney held in safe custody by Brett Davies Lawyers or Legal Consolidated, these physical documents are now with Fort Knox Legal. Since 2022, Legal Consolidated has held no physical Wills or POAs.
To ensure the documents are with a specialist custodian, these files were transferred to their safe custody facility. Legal Consolidated no longer holds, manages, or has access to these original physical records. We have no control over them.
If you or your executors need to locate or retrieve an original document, you must contact Fort Knox Legal directly. We do not know their specific current requirements for document release, as they follow their own procedures set out by the requirements of law. Any enquiries regarding the physical state or location of these legacy documents must be directed to Fort Knox Legal.
